Privacy Policy
Scope: This site is operated from the United States and provides information for US residents only. Visitors from other jurisdictions use the site at their own discretion.
Effective Date: 2026-05-07. Plain-language summary first, full terms below.
Plain-language summary
- We don't ask for your name, email, phone, or address. There's no account, no signup, no newsletter.
- The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your inputs (state, vehicle value, year, weight, fuel type) are never sent to our servers.
- We use Google AdSense, which serves ads using cookies. We use Google Analytics to measure aggregate traffic patterns. Both can be opted out of (see below).
- We don't sell or share your data. There's nothing to sell.
What information we collect
Information we don't collect: name, email, phone number, mailing address, payment information, social security number, date of birth, vehicle VIN, license plate, or any other personally identifiable information (PII).
Information we do collect (anonymously, via Google Analytics): approximate location (country/state/city), device type, browser, referrer URL, pages viewed, and time on site. This data is aggregated and not tied to any individual.
Information stored in your browser: the calculator may store your last calculation in localStorage so the page remembers your inputs on return visits. This stays on your device — we never see it.
Cookies
We use the following categories of cookies:
- Essential: none required.
- Analytics: Google Analytics (_ga, _gid). Used to count visits and measure popular pages. Anonymized.
- Advertising: Google AdSense. Used to serve relevant ads and prevent the same ad from repeating. Subject to Google's cookie policy.
You can opt out of advertising cookies via Google Ad Settings or by browsing in incognito mode.
Third-party services
- Google AdSense — serves the ads you see. Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics — measures aggregate traffic. IP anonymization is enabled.
- Affiliate networks — if the site ever carries affiliate links, clicking one lets the destination site set its own cookies under its own privacy policy. We currently run none.
- Netlify — hosts this site. Logs include IP addresses for security/abuse prevention, not for analytics.
Your rights under CCPA (California residents)
Same caveat applies here: we don't collect personally identifiable information about you directly, so most CCPA rights are already met by default. The named rights guaranteed by California law are:
- Right to know (CCPA §1798.100) — what categories of personal information are collected, sold, or shared. From us: none directly. From third-party partners on our pages (Google AdSense, Google Analytics, affiliate networks): see their respective privacy policies linked above.
- Right to delete (§1798.105) — request deletion of personal information. We have nothing to delete on our side. Exercise this right against Google and affiliate networks via their account controls.
- Right to opt-out of sale or sharing (§1798.120) — opt-out of having your personal information sold or shared with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell data. Cookie-based advertising opt-out: Google Ad Settings. See also "Browser opt-out signals" below.
- Right to non-discrimination (§1798.125) — exercising any CCPA right will not affect the price, quality, or availability of any service on this site. The site is free; no account-tier discrimination is possible.
How to submit a CCPA request: email info@carregistrationfee.com with subject "CCPA request — [know / delete / opt-out]". Include your browser type, approximate visit date, and the category of action requested. Because we maintain no user accounts, requests are processed against IP-level analytics records only. Response window: 45 days (CCPA §1798.130(a)(2)). Anchor: Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
Browser opt-out signals (GPC)
California's CCPA (per CA AG reg §7025) recognizes the Global Privacy Control browser header as a valid opt-out signal for residents. When GPC is detected, we treat your visit as having exercised the opt-out right, and no separate request is needed. What that means in practice: Google AdSense's IAB integration reads browser GPC signals downstream, so a visitor with GPC enabled gets non-personalized ads, and the same applies to any affiliate links if we ever run them. To enable GPC: turn it on in Brave, DuckDuckGo, or Firefox (privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled flag).
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect any change. Material changes will be flagged in a banner.
How to contact us
Our Contact page and the email above handle CCPA requests, editorial corrections, legal notices, and partnership inquiries. By design we don't run a contact form — every inquiry goes through a single email address, so we collect no personal information through contact (no form fields, minimal attack surface). Response policies are documented in the CCPA section above and on the About page.
